Mindful Nature Cards

Catherine Evans > Mindful Nature Cards

45 large sized (89 x 146 mm), full glossy colour, which come in a handy flip-open box.

Cards feature Australian photographs hoping to inspire, along with a ditty to explain the card topic.

Topics include colours (Black, Blue, Brown, Green, Orange, Purple, Red, Pink, Yellow, White, Colourful), emotions (e.g. anger, dislike, happy, sad, like/love, laugh out loud), sizes (e.g. Big, Tiny, Tall), textures (e.g. soft, fuzzy, fluffy, hard, rough), senses (e.g. smelly, scaly, smooth, wet, spiky, sparkling), shapes (e.g. square, triangular, round).

What would you do with them?

  • Draw a card and see if it can start a topic discussion (e.g. What can you see that’s big? What makes you feel happy? Is there anything that’s smelly?)
  • Select a card for a daily challenge. At the end of the day, discuss what you’ve seen during the day that links to the topic.
  • Take the cards when you go somewhere in nature. Draw a card, or a few cards, and see what you can find that matches the topic.
  • Have a nature journal, and draw the things you see.
  • Make up your own cards using photos you’ve taken and poems you’ve created.
  • Create a ‘scavenger hunt’ by giving a number of cards to kids and seeing what they can draw/photograph/pointout.
  • Invent your own way of using the cards.

Younger children (4-7 years) seemed to enjoy these best in my small trial run!
