About Catherine Evans

Catherine Evans > About Catherine Evans

Catherine Evans is a city-born throwback to country genes.

After completing an environmental biology degree, I desperately needed to move to the country. A job in agriculture was the perfect escape. After spending eighteen years in agricultural research and gaining a Masters degree in Agriculture, I have a passion for rural life.

Writing brought me comfort when I was ill with Ross River Fever and Glandular Fever. Over the years, my health has improved, and writing has remained one of my creative passions (until the world went crazy with bushfires and Covid and words have been tough to find since the end of 2019).

I love photography. Sometimes I combine photography and writing. Since 2019, photography has been my major creative passion and has brought me daily joy, inspiration and calm.

I love exploring my creativity, so I’m never really sure what I’ll come up with next!

I seem to be developing ‘pockets’. I called a collection of short stories, Pockets of Pebbles. Then in 2020, I produced Pockets of Joy, a photo book. I’ve begun to wonder if “pockets” is my theme!

Most of my creations are linked to nature. Since I’ve slowed down, I’ve been able to draw more deeply on nature to inspire me. Maybe I’m delivering pockets of joy to help those with busy lives connect to nature.

Meet the team

I love working with other people. I’ve enjoyed writing linked books with Jennie Jones, Lisa Ireland, Amy Andrews, Nicola Marsh, and Lauren K McKellar.

My constant inspiration is Cate Ellink. She’s wild and passionate, with interests that aren’t as tame as expected, and I adore her.

If you see me working with her, don’t be worried. Cate’s on her best behaviour with me. You’ll need to visit her website if you want the wild side of Cate.
